Kites are always fun for kids, especially when they get to make their own. They can color, cut, glue, and decorate them in any way they like.

Here are some easy kite craft ideas you can try with paper, sticks, string, and other simple things at home. Some are just for decorating, and some are fun to play with outside.
So bring your kids and let’s start crafting!

DIY Kite with Popsicle Sticks

If you have some leftover ice cream sticks or craft sticks, paper, and yarn, you can make these cutest kites for summer games!

Assemble the romb with sticks and paper, color them if kids want, make little paper bows and glue them on yarn string! Add googly eyes and draw a smile. Done.

Cut & Paste Kite Summer Scene

You will need sky blue construction paper as a background, white, yellow, green and red paper sheets to cut out rombs, clouds, and sun, then glue them up to make a 3D kite!

Puzzle Kite

Fun kite craft to use any cardboard in the house and also to use a very cool crafting tool: a puzzle cutter! You will need cardboard, colored construction paper, glue, tracing paper, and a ribbon (or you can make the tail with paper).

This is a fun craft for kids who want to make something they can actually take outside and fly. It uses just a plastic bag, thin dowels or sticks, string, ribbon, and markers, so kids can decorate their own kite before testing it in the wind.

This is one of the cutest kite crafts, and I personally really like it. It’s a simple spring craft for brightening up a window, with kids adding colorful tissue paper pieces inside the kite frame and finishing it with a paper tail and little bows.

This is just a simple kite craft made with popsicle sticks, paper, streamers, and pipe cleaners. I like that kids can use whatever paper they have, like gift wrap, tissue paper, or even their own artwork, to make each kite look different.

Kite Embroidery Hoop Art

This craft is a little challenging compared to the other kite crafts, but it’s a nice one for kids who enjoy fabric and simple stitching. It uses fabric pieces, ribbon, and embroidery thread to make a kite design, and kids can add any short phrase, name, or little detail they like.

This is a cute and simple kite craft, and it’s one of the most enjoyable to make among the others. Kids just fill the printable template with small paper squares, then choose their own colors and patterns for the kite.

Letter K Kite Craft

For this one, kids make the letter K with paper and add a little kite on it. They can also add their own details around it, like clouds, birds, trees, or anything they want, so it feels more like their own alphabet craft.
