Step 2: Talk about stripes. Before coloring, ask: “Why do you think zebras have stripes?”
Step 3: Color by number! Follow the numbered key carefully — the zebra’s stripes involve some detailed number work that’s wonderfully satisfying to complete.
Step 4: Explore the habitat. Ask: “What other animals live on the grasslands?” Lions, elephants, and wildebeest all share the zebra’s home — a great conversation to have!

What Kids Learn
Grasslands — also called savannas or prairies depending on where they are in the world — are wide, open habitats covered in grasses with few trees.
Through this printable, kids learn that zebras are herbivores that graze on grasses, that their stripes may help confuse predators, and that the African grasslands are home to some of the world’s most iconic wildlife.
The detailed stripe work also makes this page a wonderful fine motor challenge for slightly older preschool and kindergarten learners.
