Owl crafts are widely popular in fall and winter, as well as whenever kids study woodland animals and birds. Plus, if your kids are Harry Potter’s fans or simply adore owls (and can you blame them?), then I have just the perfect 3D owl paper craft for you to make at home or classroom.

No expensive supplies needed and you don’t even need to draw an owl, you will be able to use my free to download printable.
Supplies To Make Paper Owl
- Color printer
- Printed template (download below)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Optional, bone folder or something to score and fold paper to have clean lines.
Steps To Make 3D Paper Owl
This paper owl is quite easy to make and doesn’t have lots of small details apart from “feet” that could puzzle kids.
Step 1: Cut

First, look at the printed owl and check the signs: glue stick and scissors.
Go ahead and cut the craft along the bold outline, cut out blank oval space that will be at the bottom of our owl.
Step 2: Fold

Score and fold owl’s body along the bold black lines and fold all the white flaps for gluing (with dotted lines), too.
The long piece is for the head and it will create a hollow 3D square with colored part being the neck and white parts for gluing (one for the head and one to glue it to the body).
Step 3: Glue

Now we can start gluing the owl together. Start by applying glue on the flaps around the hole we cut out. Press each flap to the side of the square body from inside.
Once it is set, apply the glue to the two flaps on top of the body and one flap from the top part. Use the bottom hole to help you gently press the flaps in place.
And that’s it!

Conversations Starters To Pair With Owl Craft
You can ask kids questions about owl to guess or test their knowledge or make it “Did you know” format.
- Can an owl look behind itself? Yes! An owl can twist its head almost all the way around to see what’s behind it. Can you try? You and me we would have to turn your whole body, but an owl just turns its neck.
- Do owls sleep at night like you? Most owls stay awake all night and sleep in the daytime. That’s the opposite of you!
- Can you hear an owl flying? Almost never. Owl feathers are so soft that they fly without making a sound.
- What do you call a bunch of owls together? A parliament! People used to think owls were very wise, so they gave them a fancy name.
- Do owls chew their food? No, they gulp small animals down whole. Later they spit up a little ball with the bones and fur they couldn’t eat.
- Can an owl roll its eyes around like you? No! Owl eyes are stuck in place, so an owl moves its whole head to look up, down, and side to side.
- How big is the smallest owl? The elf owl is so tiny it can sit in your hand. Look at your hand! Some other owls are as big as a small child!
- Can an owl hear a mouse hiding under the snow? Yes! Owls hear so well they can find a mouse they can’t even see, just by listening.
- What is a baby owl called? An owlet! Owlets hatch all soft and fluffy and stay in the nest until their wings are ready for flying. Could you spell owlet?
- Where do owls live? Almost everywhere! Owls live in forests, hot deserts, grassy fields, and even in busy cities.
