Easy Star Wars Painting Ideas

I’ve found so many ideas and I’m happy to share them with you all. For your convenience I divided all painting and crafting ideas into groups:

You will find an idea for you 100%: I got everything from easy quotes to print or paint on a T-shirt to large-scale epic murals!

STAR WARS CHARACTERS PAINTING IDEAS

#1 Darth Vader

One of the most popular characters and the most important ones is Darth Vader – one of the Sith Lords. His powerful persona is great for painting portraits and war scenes, and super fun for T-shirt designs and posters in your room. You don’t need any dark forces to paint it tho! Mmm, maybe a little bit 😉

Darth Vader fighting a Xenomorph

It can also always be just a silhouette with a red lightsaber or just the head, so it will be more beginner-friendly:

#2 Darth Sidious (Palpatine, The Emperor)

Talented strategist, guided by the dark force, Darth Sidious, or simply the Emperor of the Galactic Empire, he made both Republic and the Jedi order fall. His goals were always justifying his means, even when he killed his own master. I would say it is better to paint his face, as it was quite distinctive, or figure with oils or acrylics to show his power and deep darkness.

Painting Palpatine is tricky: on one side he is all covered by a mantle which is just black, but his face is wrinkled and it can be challenging to paint for beginners. You can make only a silhouette in the darkness with electric lights coming out of his hands to simplify the task.

#3 Darth Maul

Amazing character to paint due to his face and body colors – he is Zabak – a gorgeous color combination of red and black, I would also add gold. Also incredible idea for face painting on Halloween!

Darth Maul survived some pretty bad injuries, including being cut by half – he is an incredibly tough, deadly, and powerful apprentice of Palpatine. The character, especially its tattoos, was inspired by indigenous Brazil tribes, as well as…Rorschach patterns!

There is a whole Darth Maul face painting tutorial by Ashlea Henson (which is perfect for Halloween!):

#4 Jedi Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker is the legend Jedi from the Star Wars universe with a humble and mysterious story of fighting the Empire and changing the galaxy forever. Did you know that in some drafts Luke Skywalker was Luke Starkiller?

We can paint the battle scenes, the scenes with master Yoda, scenes from the Jedi’s life, travels, and fights, as well as picture him as a cartoon character (it is easier to paint). The most popular painting is Luke with his lightsaber in his hands, ready to get into a fight. You can draw both young and old Jedi.

I think it’s a work of Michael Hiskins – Darth Vader, Luke, and Death Star

There is a speed painting of Luke Skywalker by Daniel Schloss I found on Youtube, looks like it will work for beginners too!

#5 Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn’s portraits with his lightsaber are very popular to paint, both with paint and digitally. Most of the art is based on the actor who was playing Qui-Gon Jinn – Liam Neeson. Jinn contributed a lot to Luke’s story and the Jedi’s path and was always following his beliefs “Feel, don’t think — use your instincts.”. He was also the mentor of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

A fragment of a full-body Qui-Gon Jinn painting by Ellie Valsin I found on Behance – Copic markers and ink pens! As you can see, any medium will work!

It can be even a watercolor painting or just a drawing:

#6 Obi-Wan Kenobi

Master Obi-Wan Kenobi takes a big and important place in the whole Star Wars story – he was the master of Luke Skywalker. A lot of portraits are here to make, and as well there are a few customized paintings, for ex., Kenobi as an old war general.

professional oil painting by Paul Burrow. You can do it with acrylics as well and it is a good idea to combine portrait and Star Wars universe background or a combat scene.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Drawing by John DiBiase
An artist with an Instagram handle @Scadart surprised fans in 2020 with this portrait of Obi-Wan Kenobi

But those are quite complex ideas to paint! For beginners, I’d suggest acrylics, pencils, and markers for easy painting of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

How to draw Obi-Wan Kenobi cartoon style with your kids:

Easy Kenobi drawing with markers, but you can sketch with markers and paint with acrylics.

#7 Princess Leia

One of the absolute fan favorites – is princess Leia! Remarkable hairstyle, white mantle, fearless look – she represents the rebel itself and it can be one of the key Star Wars painting ideas.

#8 Yoda Painting Ideas

Another crowd favorite – wise Yoda – master of Jedi for more than 800 years. He was crucial to the Clone Wars and the saga, as he trained Luke Skywalker. Painting Yoda requires a few supplies, but as he is old, we will have to carefully paint all his wrinkles (giving him an extra wise look).

#10 Baby Yoda Grogu

Painting him is fun and easy – he is small, wears a robe, and is simply green! Easy star wars painting idea for adults and kids.

An ultimate Emperial super laser weapon – Death Star – can easily destroy a whole planet. It looks majestic, mysterious, definitely terrifying, and is a great Star Wars painting idea for fans of the saga. It is also quite easy to paint either on canvas (you can even choose round canvas) or on a round rock – as it is simply round like a moon 🙂

Easy to draw with pencils, sketching, or painting. You can either paint just the Death Star in the dark void of space or add some landscapes or a planet it might destroy. Here are some ideas for painting Death Star:

I love reading non-fiction books about how our brain or body works and I always need bookmarks! For Star Wars fans a lightsaber bookmark is just a must-have, lol. And it is super easy to paint. I would suggest you paint a few sabers first and then carefully cut them. Originally the idea came to Amanda and she has a full tutorial on how to make them!

#30 Star Wars Quotes – Customize your clothes!

Some of my favorite quotes from Star Wars for painting ideas:

“May the Force be with you”

“Try not. Do or do not. There is no try” (Yoda)

“The fear of loss is a path to the dark side.” —Yoda

“Your focus determines your reality.” Qui-Gon Jinn

“I’m a Mandalorian. Weapons are part of my religion.” Mando

“This is the way.” —Mando (Did you respond to anything with this quote after watching Mandalorian or it is just me?!)

“I am one with the Force and the Force is with me.” —Chirrut

“Women always figure out the truth. Always.” —Han Solo

“Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.” —Kylo Ren

There are so many places to paint or write a quote from Star Wars or a caption: a T-shirt, a mug, a poster, a canvas – anything! It looks cool, especially if you create something like this poster from Amazon or Etsy:
